Many people use single-occupancy motor vehicles for their daily commutes contributing to congested freeways and extended travel times. In addition, congested roadways lead to decreased air quality, elevated greenhouse gas emissions, and dependence on foreign fuel supplies.
To reduce petroleum-fueled, single occupancy vehicle use within municipal operations and the community, the Conservation Section promotes the following programs and resources:

Bike Chula Vista | A Bicycle-Friendly Community
Bicycling is great for everyone — communities, businesses, schools, and people. It promotes active lifestyles, reduces traffic congestion, and improves air quality; but most importantly, it's fun! In fact, the City itself has been certified as a bronze-level "Bicycle-Friendly Community" by the American League of Cyclists.
The City of Chula Vista also works to expand bicycling-related infrastructure throughout the community. The Chula Vista Bikeway Master Plan was updated in 2011 and provides a blueprint for developing a robust network of bike lanes and routes to make bicycling safe and easy. Check out the "Bike Chula Vista" map & guide to learn about local bicycling resources:

Protect Your Bike from Theft
One of the best security options available is to use a bike locker or secure bike parking. Bike lockers are available at Trolley stations and some Park & Ride lots. Submit an online request to reserve secure bike parking.
Many locations also offer bike racks. Remember that it’s important to secure both wheels to the frame and the frame to the rack. A U-Lock is suggested. Take items that are easily removed from your bike with you.
Register Your Bike Today
One of the most important steps you can take to protect your investment is to register your bike with the National Bike Registry. If your bike is ever stolen, having your bike registered makes it easier and faster for it to be recovered and returned to you. It’s a simple and inexpensive process that can be completed online or by phone at 1-800-848-BIKE (2453).
Safe Routes to Schools Maps | Helping Students Walk & Bike Safely to Schools
The City of Chula Vista's Engineering Division and Conservation Section recently implemented a project to evaluate local middle schools’ street and sidewalk infrastructure for connectivity and coverage and to identify on-the-ground infrastructure deficiencies through school route field audits.
Based on the results, the City has created suggested school route maps for pedestrians and bicyclists, mainly focusing on a 1-mile radius around Chula Vista Middle Schools:
- Bonita Vista Middle School
- Castle Park Middle School
- Chula Vista Middle School
- EastLake Middle School
- Hilltop Middle School
- Rancho Del Rey Middle School
Alternative Fuel Stations Map | Cleaner Fuel, Cleaner Air
