In July 2018 an Urban Agriculture Zone (UAIZ) was adopted in Chula Vista, which is allowed under state law through Assembly Bill 551 and amended by Assembly Bill 465.  The UAIZ provides a tax benefit for private landowners that enter into a contract where a vacant property is only used for agricultural purposes.  Contracts are for a minimum of five (5) years and properties must be between 0.1 and 3 acres.
