The City of Chula Vista has a long history of volunteerism, from our founding community members to the over 1,000 volunteers today who give of their time and talents. We are proud of our volunteers and the valuable services they provide.

Additional opportunities may be available throughout City Hall, depending on the time of year and department needs. If you do not see the department you wish to volunteer for listed, please complete the General Application and indicate your preference. You may also contact the staff members listed below for additional information or questions.

Internships

The City of Chula Vista occasionally offers internships to individuals who are engaged in undergraduate- and graduate-level studies. Interns will be assigned projects that will help foster an understanding of Public Administration. Clerical and other routine duties are necessary parts of many job functions, but will not represent a significant portion of an internship assignment. If you are interested in being considered for our internship program, please complete a Volunteer Application. Please note: Submitting an application for an internship is no guarantee of receiving an assignment. Interns are placed only when departments have a need.

Applications

All volunteers and interns are required to complete an application. Applications for internships and volunteer opportunities are reviewed on an as-needed basis by the various City departments. Submitting an application is not a guarantee of placement. Applications for volunteer opportunities and internships will be kept on file for six months. If you have not been placed in a volunteer position or internship within six months, your application will be purged from the system. Please be aware, submitting multiple applications does not increase your chance for placement. Multiple application submissions within a six month period will be deleted from the system.
